Chrome for iPad makes it easier to multitask with Split View support

Apple's Split View feature in iOS 9 is great for some light multitasking on the iPad, but initially it's been mostly supported by Apple's own apps.

On Thursday, Google brought a much-needed addition to this feature by launching a new version of Chrome with support for Split View. That's right, you can now have Chrome and another iPad app running side by side — provided you have an iPad Air 2 or an iPad mini 4. The feature also works on the iPad Pro, but it's doubtful you have that particular gadget, as it's arriving in November.

The Split View feature is different from Slide Over, which lets you open a new app on the right side of the screen while in another app, but does not let you work in both apps at the same time. Slide Over, which works with older iPads as well, is also supported by the new Chrome app.

In a multitasking scenario, a web browser is pretty important as it's likely to be needed quite often — for me, it's by far the most useful Split View app on my iPad. Apple's Safari supported the feature since launch, but now users who prefer Chrome can take advantage of it as well.

You can get the new Chrome for iPad on Apple's App Store.
